I thought it would be fun to look back at 2019 and see the similarities/differences in my brides’ wedding dresses and see what sticks for 2020. The biggest element in common was lace. Lace is nothing new to wedding dresses, but lace sleeves and lace backs have been trending again recently. So gorgeous!
Colors are also changing…I’m also seeing less pure white dresses as brides are moving more into off-white and even a darker tan underlay under white/off-white lace. One thing is certain, it is so much easier to pick a dress that suits your personality/taste these days. There are just so many options to choose the perfect wedding dress. Look below and see what my brides picked…
* Side note: I didn’t have information for a few of my brides as to where they purchased their dresses but we have some fabulous dress shops in our area! Check them out:
These brides opted for an open back wedding dress…but don’t you love how all three of these are completely different? Yuxin’s dress (top left) had a darker material underneath to really make the lace stand out and I loved the simplicity of the string tie at the top. Abby’s (top right, from David’s Bridal) had small straps, which I think added a delicate element to her dress. I promise she wasn’t pulling those straps all day…they really stayed put. Katie’s (bottom, from Wren Bridal) deep “V” back was also outlined in delicate lace. It was so beautiful on her!
Isn’t it funny how we are terrified to show up to the same event in the same outfit as someone else? Haha. Ashton’s (on the right, from Ashley Grace Bridal) wedding was in June and I could not get over her polka dot lace overlay. I have never seen anything like it and I think it really added a playful/fun element to her dress. Then I get to Hannah’s wedding and see her gorgeous princess dress hanging and I’m just raving about it and she says, “You had another bride with this dress, but it had polka dots”. After I saw Hannah in the dress, she was right, I recognized it from Ashton’s wedding but Hannah’s (on the left, from Caryn’s Bridal) had a lace detail instead of the polka dots. One difference, but the same dress and both of these beautiful girls looked perfect!
These wedding dresses are definitely on trend for 2020 and are popping up more often than ever and I LOVE THEM! I think lace elements in your wedding dress provide another detail to photograph. Top left (Ashley Grace Bridal), Top Right (Studio I Do Roanoke), Middle Right (Studio I Do Roanoke).
Mackenzie and Sally chose these beautiful satin wedding dresses for their big day. Mackenzie’s straps were off the shoulder and Sally’s were sleeveless, but the flowy goodness that comes from these dresses is unmatched! And they have pockets, y’all! 🙂 Mackenzie’s Dress is from Celebration Bridal and Tux and Sally’s is from David’s Bridal.
Strapless wedding dresses have been popular as long as I can remember. I opted for a strapless wedding dress 11 years ago when I got married…of course that’s when strapless dresses were all the rage and no one wanted a hint of a sleeve or strap on a dress. HAHAH! Ashlynn’s (on the left, from Church Street Bridal) dress was full of frill and had the most beautiful beadwork with silver accents. Erin’s (on the right, from Ashley Grace Bridal) dress was the perfect combination of classic and modern with her long lace-overlay train and form fitting bodice.
