I love photographing new venues and with all the wedding venues that have popped up in the past few years, it’s not hard to try them out. The Prizery is an arts and cultural center, but they also have options for events and weddings. On this particular day in January, it was so, so, so cold. If I remember right, it was about 20 degrees with a wind chill of 10 which didn’t let us stay outside for more than a few minutes. We had to get really creative indoors to make sure we got some great photos and that was also didn’t freeze. Luckily for us, the stairwells had ample window light and touches of brick here and there that we were able to use. We did end up going outside for their first look, due to needing more space, and I very quickly lost feeling in my fingers. Their blanket didn’t even warm them up…haha!
After you look through this blog, you may wonder where some of the “normal” shot-list photos are hiding. They aren’t here. This was our second Mennonite wedding we’ve photographed in Danville and they do things a little differently. There aren’t rings, no bling, the bride doesn’t wear makeup, there’s no dancing at the reception BUT you take all those things away and you still have a gorgeous wedding. The bride’s family made the bouquets and the bride, Jaimee, handlettered the script throughout the decorations. Isn’t she amazing? I was beyond impressed! While Kevin, the groom, and I were waiting on Jaimee for the first look I was able to hear a little bit about their story…how they dated and broke up and then found each other again and have been together for years. They were just the cutest and sweetest couple.
I hope you enjoy looking through these photos. I also wish I had thought to video the parts in the ceremony where everyone sang hymns. It was incredible. I sat there thinking, 1) how do all of these people come together and sing harmony like professionals, and 2) this must be what heaven sounds like. Thanks to Karen Setliff Photography for asking me to second shoot this wedding with you! Check out this gorgeous venue here!
